Crucible® Approach Two Day Therapist Workshop

This workshop will not be sponsored by MFHC in 2006 but will be offered by two different sponsors. Please see our sponsored workshops for more detail.

The Two Day Therapist Workshop provides a conceptual and clinical overview of the Sexual Crucible Approach: A paradigm-shift from dysfunction-based approaches, emphasizing sexual potential, personal maturation, and life span development. Don't mistake this for an "introductory", basic, or innocuous workshop. By most therapists' estimate, it is a highly sophisticated professional training experience that stretches every participant in some way.

This workshop shows you how to harness the natural "crucibles" of committed relationships. It's a powerful professional and personal growth experience in itself. Therapists who've attended tell us it has changed their professional practices and their personal lives. The Two Day Therapist Workshop is prerequisite for all advanced professional workshops (but not the Couples Weekend or Couples Retreat). Check with sponsors for continuing education credit information.

More than just an explanation, this workshop immerses you in a revolutionary way to conceptualize and practice integrated marital and sex therapy. While conceptually exciting, it emphasizes practical realities. The Therapist Workshop details how to construct a sexual crucible in clinical practice and illustrates this through live case demonstration.

Experience this ground breaking approach of how intimacy and sexual desire evolve in long-term relationships. This powerful workshop is the portal: Welcome to the Crucible Approach!

The Therapist Workshop covers:
  • Understanding the "people-growing machinery" of marriage.
  • What causes sexual boredom?
  • Self-validated and other-validated intimacy.
  • How to "construct the crucible" for couples and individuals.
  • Dealing with the politics of change in therapy.
  • The therapist's role in treatment: personal differentiation and capacity for intimacy.
  • Shifting treatment from anxiety reduction to intimacy, eroticism, and differentiation.
  • (Re)uniting sexuality and spirituality in bed and in therapy.
By attending this workshop you will be able to:
  • List intimacy-incongruent aspects of contemporary sex therapies and marital therapies, and note differences between dysfunction-based approaches and one focused on sexual potential.
  • Recognize other-validated and self-validated intimacy and understand their roles in creating and resolving relationship "gridlock."
  • Explain the Crucible Approach, and deconstruct it's intervention strategy from a live demonstration.
  • Explain how self-soothing (differentiation) determines people's capacity for intense intimacy, eroticism and sexual desire in emotionally committed relationships.
  • List key steps for using natural "sexual crucibles" of emotionally committed relationships to enhance differentiation.
  • Recognize how "the person of the therapist" permeates every aspect of clinical practice, and realize your own "growth edges" in becoming a better therapist.
